How do I know if my baby is getting enough milk?To understand whether your baby is getting enough milk is determined by several factors. You can monitor baby’s weight, frequency of urination (at least 6-8 wet diapers per day), and the baby's overall appearance and activity level. If you are not sure and have concerns, please, consult your doctor or a lactation consultant.

Can I breastfeed if my milk supply is low?Yes, most women are able to increase their milk production through regular feedings. Lactation consultants can help identify problems and develop a plan to assist you with milk supply issues.

Can I breastfeed if my chest hurts?Nipple pain can be caused by a variety of factors. Most often it is a latch issue that could be corrected. However, it is important to find the cause of the pain/discomfort, so that you could enjoy the breastfeeding experience. Please seek help from a lactation consultant or your doctor.

Can I breastfeed if I have mastitis?Yes, in most cases, depending on the type of mastitis and an overall clinical picture, breastfeeding is possible. Lactation consultant will provide support to assist you with your choice. However, mastitis requires treatment, including antibiotics; therefore, it is recommended to consult your doctor for the proper assessment and a prescribed treatment.

How often and for how long should I breastfeed? It is advisable to feed your baby every 2-3 hours, which typically amounts to 8-12 feedings per day (24-hour period). During growth spurts, your baby may require more frequent feedings. The feeding duration can vary, but usually lasts around 15-20 minutes from each breast (be sure to offer both breasts during each feeding). Above all, be attentive to your baby's cues. If your baby remains hungry and displays signs of hunger after finishing on the second breast, return to the first breast and continue feeding.
